The University Community Church Redevelopment explores a new model for institutional intensification by integrating student-oriented housing with an active place of worship and community facilities. Rather than replacing the church, the proposal reimagines the site as a mixed-use destination where faith, housing, and community reinforce one another.
The project began as an exploration of how an established community institution could continue serving future generations while responding to Windsor's growing need for housing. Through a comprehensive feasibility and concept design process, multiple planning, massing, and program scenarios were evaluated to balance church operations, housing demand, urban design, and long-term financial sustainability. The selected concept introduces 105 studio suites above an active institutional base, creating a development strategy that strengthens both the church and the surrounding neighbourhood.
Our role extended beyond the design of the building itself. We worked closely with the client to evaluate development potential, explore planning strategies, and align architectural, operational, and long-term objectives into a cohesive redevelopment vision. The project demonstrates how thoughtful architecture can help community institutions evolve while remaining vibrant, resilient, and deeply connected to the people they serve.
